So you've Jailbroken your iPhone, installed all these goodies and have been enjoying the freedom. Ok, you weren't free after all, you've been on parole from your local Apple Prison.
Last month a Dutch iPhone user demonstrated how careless jailbreaking can cause trouble. Finding users who enabled SSH with the phone's default password left intact. Again from the Netherlands and again finding jailbroken iPhones with SSH enabled, F-secure reports that this infraction puts up an ING Direct login page that lets the hacker gather login credentials and, we assume, move funds to wherever they please. This version also changes the 'alpine' password to block users from getting to the phone via SSH.
It's time to change that iphone password... You know, alpine... must be changed.
A few ways to change your iPhone default password:
Option 1: Open Cydia and download an application called MobileTerminal. It’s nice and small so shouldn’t take too long. Once downloaded launch it and you’ll be faced with a screen very much like the screenshot over on the left. It’s basically a terminal window just like OS X and linux.
Option 2: Open a terminal window and enter. ssh root@"192.168.1.100" (Your iPhone IP on your local wifi Network)
Now just enter the command:
passwd
Now you’ll be asked for your old password which should be ‘alpine’, followed by your new one (twice). Nice and simple. REMEMBER YOUR NEW PASSWORD!!!
